About the doctors

Blaine G. Calahan, DDS, MS

Dr. Blaine Calahan is proud to call Shreveport, Louisiana home! After 13 years of educational pursuits in Ruston, New Orleans and San Antonio, Blaine returned to his hometown community.

As a periodontist, Dr. Calahan specializes in the supporting bony and gingival tissues around teeth, but the focus of his practice always starts with a comprehensive oral examination. This ensures that before you start with any treatment in the practice, you understand what will be needed to return you to state of oral health.

Dr. Calahan has a master’s degree in scientific research received from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio. This degree was awarded for original clinical research focused on bone grafting procedures using a variety of grafting materials and growth factors to enhance bone regenerative procedures. His projects have been published in the Journal of Periodontology and the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. In 2017, Dr. Calahan won the Prichard Prize for Clinical Research awarded annually by the Southwest Society of Periodontists.

Dr. Calahan is an active participant in organized dentistry to promote and protect the profession of dentistry. He has been the president of the Northwest Louisiana Dental Association, the Louisiana Society of Periodontists and a board member for the Southwest Society of Periodontists.

Blaine is married to his high school sweetheart, Destiny, whom he met on the soccer field at Caddo Magnet High School. They spend their free time chasing their two spirited daughters.

Bill Borders, DDS

Dr. Borders has been practicing periodontics in Shreveport, LA for the last 50 years.  He has had the privilege of helping patients from all around the Ark-La-Tex keep their teeth and replace missing teeth through the evolution of dental implant therapy.

Dr. Borders began his educational pursuits at the university of Arkansas reveiving his bachelor of science in chemistry while on a full atheletic tennis scholarship.  He then attended LSU school of dentistry where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery.  He entered private practice as a general dentist before going back and receiving his certificate in Periodontics from the University of Nebraska Dental College.

He is the past president of the Northwest Louisiana Dental Association and has maintained membership with the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Dental Association throughout his career. 

Dr. Borders brings years of clinical experience to the practice as he has helped individuals manage their unique dental needs throughout his career.  He goal is, and always will be, to do the best for those seeking treatment in his practice to return them to a state of oral health, saving natural teeth whenever possible.  He advises patients the importance of understanding that achieving successful outcomes involves a team approach that includes: the periodontist, the general dentist, the dental professional’s staff, and most importantly YOU, the patient!

He is greatly appreciative to all of the patients who have allowed him to provide them care and who have supported his practice and his family over his career.
